As a mental health therapist, difficult 15 years old is very common. Even though it might not feel like it, 15 years old is only the beginning of teenage years.
However, 14-16 year old teens are very often the most difficult ages when it comes to anger, rebellion and impulsivity.
Now, you might be wondering why?
-Their brain growth is focused on impulsion and exploring the world.
-They are just starting to have their own opinions and want to make sure people know about them.
-They have no clue who they are and are freaking out about it.
As a parent, what can you do?
-Make sure you give them 1 or 2 activities they can do to explore themselves and have a bit of adrenaline. Doing such will give them a sense of self, will make them feel like they can express their own emotions and opinions, and will allow them to regulate their impulses.
-Make sure you provide them with a few healthy adults they can rely on and grow with. Doing such will allow your teens to not fully attach to peers.
-Build your attachment to them. Healthy attachment will be the key to guiding, communicating and keeping your teen safe.
